Kim Armour, Manager and Nurse Practitioner of Women’s Subspecialties at Central DuPage Hospital, is a Certified Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Healthcare and Perinatology. She holds her registry as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Obstetrics and Gynecology, specializing in fetal diagnostics, and also holds a certificate as a Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner from Planned Parenthood of Minnesota/South Dakota. Ms. Armour currently serves on the AWHONN Board of Directors; is a member of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health; and serves as associate faculty for both Loyola University, Chicago, and the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She has served as expert faculty with NICHQ, HRSA, and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Perinatal Learning and Innovation Community. Ms. Armour presents nationally on many obstetrical topics and has a number of publications.
Peter H. Cherouny, MD, is currently Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. He has strong clinical interests in health care quality improvement serving as the Chair of Quality Assurance and Improvement for the Women's Health Care Service of Fletcher Allen Heathcare for 10 years and the FAHC Medical Staff for three. His recent research has been in quality improvement as Chair of the March of Dimes collaborative "Improving Prenatal Care in Vermont," Faculty Content Expert for IHI's Peri-Natal Innovation Workgroup and as Co-investigator of the MedTeams project.
Kathy Connolly, RN, is the Assistant Vice President of Risk Management with Premier Insurance Management Services, Inc. Her nursing background includes labor and delivery, newborn nursery, NICU, medical surgical nursing and adult intensive care nursing. She has 15 years of experience in health care risk management.
Virginia (Ginna) Leigh Hamilton Crowe, RN, EdD, has over 30 years experience in many areas and multiple levels of health care, ranging from front line care delivery to management and international consulting. This experience combined with education in nursing, business, and adult and organizational learning provides a unique perspective that serves her well as a quality management consultant. Dr. Crowe founded Hamilton Consulting, LLC, in 2001. Her practice centers on facilitating learning and improving for organizations, teams, and individuals. She has worked with multiple organizations who desire to improve the delivery, efficiency, and experience of health care for patients and staff.
Joseph Derrough, MD, is the Physician Chair of the Perinatal Patient Safety Project and Medical Co-Director of Patient Safety for Kaiser-Permanente in San Jose. Dr. Derrough was a member of the team awarded the David Lawrence National Patient Safety Award in 2004 in recognition of its ground-breaking Perinatal Patient Safety Project. In addition, he serves on the Northern California Regional PPSP Steering Committee for Kaiser-Permanente. As a seasoned human factors speaker and trainer, he has presented to multiple medical and nursing groups. Dr. Derrough’s patient safety focus includes: human factors; perinatal patient safety; transfer of training; critical events team training; communication at the “sharp end” between and among physicians and hospital staff; and patient safety initiatives in the outpatient setting. Dr. Derrough is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and in addition to his Permanente Medical Group practice, volunteers at a Rotacare free clinic.
Frank A. Federico, RPh, Executive Director of Strategic Partners, Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), works in the areas of patient safety, application of reliability principles in health care, and perinatal care. He is faculty for the IHI Patient Safety Officer Executive Development Program, and previously co-chaired a number of Patient Safety Collaboratives. Prior to joining IHI, Mr. Federico was the Program Director of the Office Practice Evaluation Program and a Loss Prevention/Patient Safety Specialist at Risk Management Foundation of the Harvard Affiliated Institutions, and Director of Pharmacy at Children's Hospital, Boston. He is one of the Executive Producers of "First, Do No Harm, Part 2: Taking the Lead."
Sue Leavitt Gullo, MS, RN, Director, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, is currently involved with the IMPACT Learning and Innovation Communities for Perinatal Care and Operational and Clinical Improvement in the Emergency Department. She has been involved with IHI since 1995 when she joined the Breakthrough Series Collaborative to Reduce Cesarean Section Rates as a team participant. As a result of that involvement and experience, she has been involved with many national projects both as a consultant and a national expert. Ms. Gullo has 25 years of experience as a clinical nurse and nurse manager, and in health care improvement.
Randall Morgan, MD, is a board-certified physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology at Associates in Women’s Health PA in Wichita, Kansas, where he is playing a key role in building a new medical office. He serves on the Board of Directors for the 14-physician practice with five clinical locations. Dr. Morgan also serves as a liaison between local hospitals, physicians, managed-care associations, medical staffs, and patients. He has 25 years of medical practice management experience and expertise in developing processes to deliver highly reliable, safe health care. Previously, he served as Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, and he was President of Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynecology PA.
